What is the difference in finding and looking?  The two words sound so much the same.  When we look we are looking so that we can find something.  They can definitely be tied together.  We look for our car keys.  We find our car keys.  Yeah, that sounds pretty close.  The question is, can we find our car keys without looking?
How many times have your torn through your house looking for your keys?  You look everywhere that you have been.  You look in the normal spots.  You look in the abnormal spots.  They are gone.  You close your eyes and take a breath.  You find them.  They were here all along.  You did not need to look for them for them to be here.
When we actively look for something we set up expectations in our mind for what we will find or where we will find it.  Those expectations limit and can set us up for disappointment when they are not fully met. Let go of your expectations of finding and just find.

We suffer because we want things to last forever or, even worse, we EXPECT things to last forever. But, impermanence isn’t a bad thing in itself. That is just a value that we apply to it. Without impermanence, life is not possible. How can we transform our suffering if things are not impermanent? How can the situation in the world improve? We need impermanence for hope.

I still want to see the Amazon, Himalayas, Egypt, Thailand, Heaven, and so on. I still want to marry a mermaid. Not solely because she has a broom connected to her pelvis and I’m messy but because she can tell me stories about the depths of the ocean, bring me spices from India and corundum from Burma. She might ask for surgery to split her legs but I will say no. I will explain to her that she shouldn’t change because change will make me love her less.

“Opposite the bench is a wall occupied from floor to ceiling by bookcases: Manfred looks at the ancient, low-density medium and sneezes, momentarily bemused by the sight of data density measured in kilograms per megabyte rather than vice versa”

- Charles Stross from “Accelerando”

Our mediums of information (be it fictional or historical) seem to be changing.  As the quote from Charles Stross points out, there’s a profound density advantage to getting our words digitally these days.

Look at the four images above.  For two of them, the contents of the image could be placed in your back pocket and forgotten.  The other two images have contents that must be lifted with your legs and not your back.

Still, two of the four images above invite me - make me want to reach out and interact with what’s pictured.  And it’s not the images that fit in your pocket.  This may simply mean that I’m over a certain age, but I don’t think that’s all.  Books, as a technology, haven’t been so successful without reason.  Printed books offer some systemic/access advantages that digital representations have yet to catch on to.

I agree with this, but at the same time I don’t miss scrolls, clay tablets, or cave paintings.  Well, maybe a little.  I know that isn’t really your point with the volume of information being “just right”, but I am sure that there were those that held onto the old medium before moving on to the new in some of those cases as well.

Change wasn’t as rapid then, but look at the analogue of records vs. digital media.  We may give up some of the quality or “feel” for quantity or ease of access, but we eventually give it up.  And those that don’t give it up will be phased out.

Of course there is always the scenario where all computers are fried and we have to rely on written media.  I am sure there is some sci-fi story out there where society has evolved to not even use or understand written media and then there is a cataclysmic event that forces them to go back to the most rudimentary form of communication.

And how timely is this???

Movies

Have you ever had a dream where you are not really part of the dream?

Sort of like watching a movie

You are not participating at all, just sitting and watching the action go by

.

Movies are a perfect analogy for life

We view them

Experience them

Get caught up in the story

Identify with the characters, sometimes very deeply

And then it is over

We get up and we leave the theater

.

And we can replay the movie again if we want to have that experience again

It will never be the same, but there is something to be said for repeat viewings

We can grow to love movies that we once hated

We can grow tired of movies that we once loved

But we are in control of what we watch

If there is a movie that I really distaste, I will not watch it again

.

What a perfect analogy for life

On pages

onpeople:

A page is the present. It takes all the previous ones to a new life, excited for a turnover - excited for a flip.

The love, the tongue and the touch - those which bring hope to any story. Those are the tools that lead to the future.

Number Sequences

I don’t normally think about numerology that much.  I have always been interested in math and number problems, but I never really read too much into a hidden meaning.  I read a post on Tumblr a couple of days ago (I can’t find it now) about number sequences.  I thought it interesting, but didn’t think any more about it.

Yesterday I made a purchase that totaled to $149.99 and the cashier made a remark that I should play those numbers in the lottery.  And then at another store I bought some items totaling $60.00 and the cashier made a remark.  So it got me thinking about the number sequence post.

I found this on Google and that seems close to what I read:

http://www.spiritual-path.com/numerology.htm

  • 999, 9999 - Completion. This is the end of a big phase in your personal or global life. Your thoughts at the time of seeing this sign indicate that these thoughts will bring about the completion or end of a phase in your life.
  • 000, 0000 - Unity with the Universe.  Your thoughts are in unity with the Universe.  This sign indicates that your thoughts are in unity with your current astrological influence.

Interesting, especially since I saw a 999 followed by a 000.  And it may be that I was just tuned to look for those numbers after reading the post, but the cashiers made a deal of it as well.

So, I will sit back and just continue to do what I am doing.  This does coincide with my oldest son starting Kindergarten.  Before we went shopping my wife said that this is the start of a new chapter in our lives.

Was it 1:11 when the dog woke me up this morning? :)

PS: From the Powerball that night, 1,49, and 6 were drew.  $149.99 and $60.00.  I am just saying.  Of course, I didn’t buy a ticket, but I didn’t have the other numbers either.  :)

What we think, we become.

Breathe in on “what we think”

Breathe out on “we become”

.

We often sit here replaying the past

A past made of lies

Lies that we have told ourselves for whatever reason

.

Become aware of the loop

.

Breathe in on “what we think”

Breathe out on “we become”

.

.

What we think, we become.

Find the Gap

We identify ourselves by the constant thoughts that we have about the past or the future.  Always switching back and forth.  But there is a gap.  A gap between the thought about the past and the thought the the future.  Find that gap.   It might be a tight fit at first, but you will eventually realize that it is an infinite space.

I found this while looking through my journal from years ago.  It still felt interesting, so I thought I would post.

The spaces of the step move through time

Alone in the way of the world

    The children of the seven

          Will pull the life sideways

     Almost forgotten is the

                 PULSE

      Shockwaves of the

                  past

                      in the future of

                      my present

.

.

I still know the

     one to save

            the Earth

      the moon

           the stars

                  the shape

                         of what I

                                want

                                    to

                                     be

                            still unknown

                               to try to force

All I have to [do] is to do

       Not try but do

.

.

I am the Bastard

         son of the Planet

Except when it

          Rains

Death

I went to lie down in bed.  I felt my body and I thought what would it be like for this body to die.  For this life, this thread, to cease to exist.  And not just that it dies, but that I am able to release it and not worry about how it ends.  That I can let go of this thread and never see it again.  This version of me with all its doubts.  With all the things that I don’t like about myself.  What if it just dies right now?  What if I just let it go and let myself be reborn again into what I want to be?  What if each moment we die and are born again?

.

In everything that we do we let the negative parts of us die, the judging parts, the parts that hold us back.  We let go of them and accept that those are threads that can exist without the need for us to view every moment of that negative existence.  And then to be born into what we want to be.  And then to realize that we will let go of that thread eventually as well.

.

If thought gives birth to a thread of existence and the end of that thought is the death of that thread, then how is what we perceive as our physical reality any different?  It is just a longer running thread comprised of an infinite number of moments of death and rebirth and at the same time it is one long moment.

If you are aware of the negative thoughts that you are having, then congratulate yourself. Most people do not hear their true nature and let them rule their lives. Allow the thoughts to come and go and be thankful that you have them.
